Louisiana Tradition Bourbon (Batch 3)
The whiskey scene in Louisiana hasn’t made much of an impact yet but NOLA Distillery is aiming to change that. With their Louisiana Tradition Bourbon, they are bringing a regional flavor to the bourbon world. Let’s see what this expression has to offer.
Nose
There are subtle hints of candy corn and caramel corn on the nose. There is also a grassy scent, a hint of orange rind and toasted oak. As a whole, the nose is straightforward.
Palate
On the palate, one can a taste a sweet corn sweetness accompanied by a toasted sugar element and a faint ginger note. These flavors don’t quite come together and the palate can be described as “underdeveloped”.
Finish
The finish is where things can get a bit harsh. Notes of melted caramel, chestnut and a hot, astringent note are met with a short finish.
Uniqueness
It’s unclear what type of traditional style the Louisiana Tradition Bourbon is supposed to represent in terms of flavor profile. The lack of an age statement on the label makes it unclear if this bourbon has been aged enough to be called Bourbon, in the eyes of the law. The flavors also don’t reflect the full potential of a matured bourbon.
Value
The lack of unique flavors and its overall weakness make this a difficult bourbon to recommend. It doesn’t stand out in any way, and leaves us hoping and wishing that it had more potential.
Overall
Louisiana Tradition Bourbon struggles to make a case for its particular style. It’s too simple and too hot, featuring a lackluster flavor profile. Sadly, Bourbon made in Louisiana hasn’t broken into the mainstream yet and this one won’t be the exception
. Try it if you’re curious about regional Bourbon expressions, but don’t expect too much.
The Louisiana Tradition Bourbon (Batch 3) may have potential for the bourbon scene in Louisiana, but it falls short in terms of flavor profile and uniqueness. While it may be worth a try for those interested in regional expressions, it may not leave a lasting impression.
.
Louisiana Tradition Bourbon (Batch 3) presents a missed opportunity for the state to make its mark in the whiskey world. With underdeveloped flavors and a weak finish, it falls short of making a strong impression. Hopefully, future batches will showcase a more unique and refined expression.
.
Overall, the Louisiana Tradition Bourbon (Batch 3) falls short in terms of uniqueness and value. While it may showcase the potential of Louisiana’s whiskey scene, it ultimately fails to stand out or leave a lasting impression.
.
Overall, I was disappointed with Louisiana Tradition Bourbon (Batch 3). Despite its attempt to bring a regional flavor to the bourbon world, the lack of unique flavors and underdeveloped palate make it unremarkable. Furthermore, the unclear age statement and lack of a defined traditional style leave much to be desired. Unfortunately, this bourbon falls short and is not one I would recommend.
