Very Olde St Nick Winter Rye 2022

Nose

Very Olde St Nick Winter Rye 2022 offers a delicate nose of sweet cinnamon spice, vanilla, light rye spice, light candy corn, a subtle dash of oak, warming and light.

Palate

The palate is filled with lightly charred oak, light grain, a touch of sweet vanilla, dry cinnamon stick, leather, a hint of caramelized sugar and earthy flavors.

Finish

The finish brings out a dry oak, leather, a burst of rye spice, warming heat and a dry, short finish.

Overall

Very Olde St Nick Winter Rye 2022 delivers a sip that lives up to its name, however, leaves you guessing what the base components of the whiskey consist of. It starts with a warming opening of lighter scents of sweet spice and vanilla sweetness punctuated by light candy corn. An earthy midpoint follows suit with earthy flavors propping up spice and sweetness and is the highlight of the sip. Rounding out on drier notes of leather and grain, a burst of rye spice delivers a warming heat, albeit in a shorter manner. It would be nice to see the company disclose more information about this rye in the future. That note aside, this is a good showing by the Very Olde St. Nick Distillery, however, I hope future iterations provide a bit more info on what you’re actually drinking, especially for the price it carries.

  1. Overall, I found Very Olde St Nick Winter Rye 2022 to be a well-balanced and enjoyable whiskey with notes of sweet spice, oak, and leather. It would be nice if the company provided more information about the rye in the future, but regardless, this is a solid offering from the Very Olde St. Nick Distillery.

  2. Very Olde St Nick Winter Rye 2022 showcases a complex nose and palate with distinct notes of sweet spice, oak, and rye. The short finish is a bit disappointing, but overall, this rye delivers a good sipping experience. It would be nice to have more information about the whiskey’s components, but regardless, this is a satisfying release from Very Olde St Nick Distillery.
