Known for their brandy, Copper & Kings “Bourbon in Apple” is the company’s first ever bourbon release, finished for 13 months in Copper & Kings American Brandy barrels – and comes with a real apple brandy influence. Let’s see how it fares.
Nose
The aroma of this spirit consists of Leather, Tart apples, Dry oak, Spiced pie crust, Baking spice, and an Underlying vein of ethanol. It owns every bit of its 122 proof.
Palate
On the palate, the tastes are Baked cinnamon apples, Peppercorn spice, Brown sugar, Baked bread, Dry oak, Large doses of spice, and a Slightly tart note.
Finish
The finish is where the real fun is at – Spice cake, Leather, Oak, Lightly baked apples, Cinnamon spice, and Long lingering heat.
Overall
The time Copper & Kings’ bourbon spent aging in the used brandy barrels is evident. Apple notes weave their way in throughout the sip and are joined with heavy doses of spice and heat. While the company has done collaborations with other whiskey distilleries, often in the form of barrel finishing, I found their “Bourbon in Apple” release to be just okay. In comparison, I found the “Apple in Grape” release to be much more intriguing.
