Whiskey Del Bac Sentinel Straight Rye Whisky

Whiskey Del Bac has done it again! Their latest offering, Sentinel Straight Rye, finished in Whiskey Del Bac Casks, is a unique mesquite-finished rye whiskey that will satisfy whiskey lovers far and wide. The nice array of notes on the nose, palate, and finish make it an incredibly approachable whiskey, perfect for sipping.

Nose

The nose of Sentinel Straight Rye Whiskey is a delightful mix of rye grain, butterscotch, lemon zest, and a touch of charcoal. Notes of mesquite can be detected, but they are very light.

Palate

On the palate, Sentinel Straight Rye Whiskey has a nice cranberry note that persists throughout. You’ll also pick up some burnt sugar and rye spice, as well as a slight creaminess that is always welcomed.

Finish

The finish of Sentinel Straight Rye Whiskey is quite dry and spicy, with a light smoke note and a short to medium length.

Uniqueness

Sentinel Straight Rye Whiskey is quite unique, as it manages to maintain its smoky mesquite character, while still remaining approachable to the casual American whiskey drinker. This stands out even more because mesquite whiskeys aren’t very common.

Value

Given its unique character and approachability, Sentinel Straight Rye Whiskey is an excellent value.

Overall

Whiskey Del Bac did a great job with this one. Even with its mesquite finished, it still manages to remain approachable and it’s a great addition to their portfolio. I’m excited to see how this whiskey continues to develop in future batches
