Old Forester The 117 Series Batch No. 004 – Whiskey Row Fire:

For whiskey-lovers seeking a classic bourbon experience, Old Forester The 117 Series Batch No. 004 – Whiskey Row Fire is a solid choice. This batch celebrates the four-year anniversary of a fire that nearly destroyed historic Whiskey Row in Louisville and most of the barrels were filled on the day the firefighters put out the blaze.

Nose

This release serves up a classic bourbon aroma with a distinctive scent of charred oak, sweet vanilla, caramel, and a dabs of leather and brown sugar.

Palate

The palate is where Batch No. 004 shines. This bourbon has a light and smooth yet complex taste with notes of aged oak, hints of cinnamon spice, rye spice, brown sugar sweetness, a touch of leather, and a thin mouthfeel.

Finish

On the finish, the whiskey delivers a dry oak taste along with subtle hints of leather, peppercorn spice, light brown sugar sweetness, and a lingering dry spice.

Uniqueness

This is the fourth release in the Old Forester’s 117 series and unfortunately, it lacks the unique and experimental nature that the other batches have had. It’s an enjoyable whiskey, but doesn’t stand out from other current Old Forester products.

Value

At around $50 per bottle, Old Forester The 117 Series Batch No. 004 is a reasonably priced whiskey given its quality.

Overall

Overall, Old Forester The 117 Series Batch No. 004 is a solid choice for those looking for a classic bourbon experience. While it does not have the unique or experimental characteristics of the other releases in the series, it certainly delivers a high-quality sip that is worth seeking out
