Wyoming Whiskey Single Barrel Bourbon (Barrel #8286)
Wyoming Whiskey takes its namesake to heart, as this isn’t just a whiskey made in Wyoming, it’s also made from Wyoming. All of its ingredients originate from the Equality State, and it’s aged through five years in its dry and windy climate that sees greater temperature extremes than the majority of the continental United States. The press release states that Wyoming Whiskey offers their Single Barrel Bourbon limited release once a year, and says it represents the ”top 1% of bourbon barrels [they] sampled each year.
Nose:
White grapes | Stewed apples | Brown sugar | Cola | Nicely balanced
Palate:
Cola | Mixed nuts | Warmed croissant | Plum | Lightly floral | Silky
Finish:
Black tea | Dark chocolate | Cigar leaf | Pecan | Flash of heat | Medium length
Overall:
This release does what a single barrel release should do: it nicely showcases the finer points Wyoming Whiskey has to offer. Wyoming Whiskey’s current single barrel selection has a lot in common with their impressive National Park releases. Their bourbon has shown great maturity as its medium age continues to rise. A strong cola note is beginning to form throughout their 2022 whiskeys and it will be interesting to see if this trend continues as their whiskeys age further. Brown sugar, plum, and light floral notes once again also continue throughout its flavor profile, but are joined by a more intriguing croissant note on the palate and black tea on the finish. Its overall sweetness is very controlled, and does not reveal itself in very quick bursts. Its finish also is slow to open up as it takes time for its rich notes to fully reveal themselves. I continue to enjoy what Wyoming Whiskey has to offer with their bourbon and their regional flair.
Ced nose; all flavors are immediately present in a pleasant and inviting way. Nothing too strong, nothing faint.
