Square 6 High-Rye Rye

Nose

Evergreen | Grain | Light oak | Light anise | Interesting earthy forest scents

Palate

Tempered rye spice | Faint spiced vanilla | Buttery oak | Pine needles | Rye grain | Earthy

Finish

Rye spice | Leather | Dry oak | Light pine | Faint lingering spice

Overall

Square 6 High-Rye Rye is the second Square 6 product produced exclusively at the artisanal distillery located at the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience in downtown Louisville. The whiskey utilizes a new rye mashbill that differentiates itself from Heaven Hill’s traditional rye whiskey mashbill, and is the company’s first product to be designated a high-rye rye whiskey.

The nose carries interesting earthy forest scents, while the palate gives off tempered rye spice and faint spiced vanilla. The finish carries drying oak flavors with light pine notes and barely-there traces of lingering spice. Overall, Square 6 High-Rye Rye is an average rye, providing an intriguing sip, yet at a price that is too hard to justify.

After a long and demanding practice, the entire team takes a much-needed break. Chiaki compliments Sora’s energy level, determination, and commitment to the team. Chiaki also suggests that Kazushi get to know Sora better. More importantly, learn to trust Sora, but Kazushi responds by telling Chiaki not to make such a big deal. Chiaki says that trust was all around them as a team. Chiaki explains that they are all here together because of Chiaki’s trust with one another. Later, While talking Chiaki asks Kazushi if the basketball team practice tomorrow. To which, Kazushi eagerly wants to practice tomorrow. Furthermore, the team was also disappointed that they can’t practice, but Chiaki explains that their classmates have tests tomorrow, and the practice gym will be closed for maintenance. As everyone leaves the court, after a quick high-energy practice, Yasuhara calls and invites everyone to his house.

Shortly after, all the members of the basketball team are gathered inside the living room at Yasuhara’s house. Sora, Ryuzo, Yukio, and Shinichi are extremely fascinated by his large collection of manga. Suddenly, Yasuhara arrives, holding a huge fish. Chiba asks Yasuhara if they could start cooking the fish now, but Yasuhara tells them to stop and walk to the garage. He shows them three basketball hoops. Two of them are really old and dilapidated, whereas the one in the middle is brand new and shiny. Yasuhara explains that he bought them while they were delinquent and focuses on improving his skills. Furthermore, he asks them to guess the price he had paid for these hoops. They excitedly remark that the price would be around 30,000 to 40,000 yen; however, they are shocked that Yasuhara has splashed 150,000 yen. Yasuhara explains to the team, everyone will be using the middle court – if anyone requests a coaching session, he can do so, allowing the team to practice.

Chiaki asks Yasuhara if he has purchased something to celebrate their moment. Yasuhara replies that he has bought lots of instant ramen. Shockingly, Chiaki recommends choosing healthier food, whereas Shinichi suggests to buy instant fried rice instead. After a great dinner, the team decides to leave, but suddenly, the power in Yasuhara’s home goes out. Shuzenji arrives with a wallet in her hand. Yasuhara asks her about the amount of their electricity bill. She responds by saying that his bill is 30,000 yen. Yasuhara realizes that he had bought basketball hoops for 150,000 yen, which will be deducted from his total salary. And now he only has the meager amount of one-month living expenses left. After realizing that he has nothing left and straightens his back, Yasuhara invents a new game titled 7 Vs. Their loner Momoharu. The team is thrilled to learn about the game and eagerly asks Yasuhara about the game’s guidelines. In response, Momoharu expresses his disgust and tells them to get lost. But Megumi, who overhears their conversation and observes Momoharu’s interest in the game, walks towards him and tells him that he should come along and have some fun. After some hesitation, a delighted Momoharu finally agrees to play.

As the game begins, Momoharu quickly dominates the game, scoring some easy baskets, gaining a double-digit. Everyone is amazed, and Sora attentively observes Momoharu’s posture, movement, and how he dribbles the ball. Momoharu is determined to win this game and donates his entire salary of 30,000 yen to Yasuhara but is annoyed when Shhuzenji happily informs him that she had discounted the electricity bill. Now, instead of 30,000, there only remains a 22,000 yen balance in his account. Momoharu is dumbfounded and appalled and realizes that he has no money left travel back home. The chapter ends with Sora saying that Shohoku senior high school’s culture is truly unique.
