Evan Williams Bourbon Experience Wheated Bourbon Review

Nose

This whiskey carries a grain-forward profile with light baking spices, pretzel dough, and caramel. There’s a youthful presence that comes through in the smell as well.

Palate

The palate follows a similar path, with caramel chews, brown sugar, and a light vanilla custard all coming through. There’s a light grain note, and it’s very sweet overall.

Finish

The underlying sweetness from the palate persists on the finish, followed by allspice and toasted oak leading into a cereal-like note.

Overall

The Evan Williams Bourbon Experience opened in November of 2013, releasing three whiskeys so far, culminating in this Wheated Bourbon. I love the concept and the fact that Heaven Hill has tied in this level of small-scale artisanal distilling, but the whiskey itself is not quite at the same level as the rest of what Heaven Hill is capable of. Grain is ever-present on the nose, palate, and finish, and there’s a youthful quality to it that belies its age. While I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this as a sipping whiskey, I do think it’s a great concept and a nice snapshot in time. Buy it to commemorate the experience, but don’t expect the same qualities as Heaven Hill’s other whiskeys.

  2. “Interesting review of the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience’s Wheated Bourbon. The writer notes a youthful presence and a grain-forward profile, making it a nice snapshot in time but not quite on par with other Heaven Hill whiskeys. Sounds like a great experience, but perhaps not the best whiskey for sipping.”

  3. “I appreciate the thorough review of the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience Wheated Bourbon. It seems like a unique and interesting concept, though not quite up to par with Heaven Hill’s other whiskeys. I would definitely try it for the experience, but may not recommend it as a sipping whiskey.”

  4. “The Evan Williams Bourbon Experience Wheated Bourbon offers a grain-forward profile with sweet and spicy notes on the nose and palate, followed by a lingering finish. While it may not match up to Heaven Hill’s other whiskeys, it’s a unique experience worth trying.”
