Jeptha Creed Bottled in Bond Rye Heavy Bourbon

Jeptha Creed is a distillery owned by the Nethery family located in Shelbyville, Kentucky. Their motto is “Don’t Forget Where You Came From.” They express this message through their embossed Celtic Knot on their glass bottle. In August of 2016, Jeptha Creed distilled their first legal barrel of bourbon since before Prohibition and now barrel nine barrels of bourbon each day.

Nose

The nose of Jeptha Creed Bottled in Bond Rye Heavy Bourbon has prominent wet sponge notes, with orange creamsicle, dried kindle, and light mulling spices.

Palate

On the palate, it’s rich with brown sugar, charred oak, baking spices, leather, thin vanilla, light rye spice, a touch of grain, and is nicely balanced.

Finish

The finish is light and smooth with brown sugar, light cream, rye spice, dry oak, and leather.

Overall

Jeptha Creed Bottled in Bond Rye Heavy Bourbon is a well-composed and promising sip – but comes with one major downside: a prominent wet sponge note on the nose. If you can work past this note, the rest of the sip is great. This will be an excellent BIB bourbon once they refine the nose

Jeptha Creed’s Bottled in Bond Rye Heavy Bourbon is a promising and well-balanced sip, but may not be for everyone due to its notable wet sponge note on the nose. However, if you can get past this, the rest of the flavors come together nicely, making it a potential standout bourbon once they perfect the nose.

Overall, Jeptha Creed Bottled in Bond Rye Heavy Bourbon is a promising bourbon with complex and balanced flavors. However, the prominent wet sponge note on the nose may be a turn off for some. Nonetheless, it is clear that Jeptha Creed takes pride in their product and their motto “Don’t Forget Where You Came From” shines through in their pursuit to produce great quality bourbon.

Overall, Jeptha Creed’s Bottled in Bond Rye Heavy Bourbon shows great potential with its rich palate and smooth finish. However, the strong wet sponge note on the nose may be off-putting for some. With some refinement, this could be a fantastic bourbon to add to one’s collection.
