Welcome to the Bourbon Trail: New Releases August 2023
In anticipation of National Bourbon Heritage Month, we’re rounding up the freshest expressions out this August from some of the finest distilleries across the country. This month’s releases feature new offerings from Heaven’s Door, Old Forester, Maker’s and more to add to your liquor cabinet.
Heaven’s Door: The Ticket to Bourbon Bliss
Starting off the list, we’ve got something from Bob Dylan’s own brand, Heaven’s Door. This distillery shows us that art isn’t limited to music, it contributes to the magical world of bourbon too!
New Release: Heaven’s Door Bourbon
Encased in a bottle featuring gates designed by Dylan himself, Heaven’s Door Bourbon is a feast for your senses. It matures at the distillery’s rickhouse in Tennessee with a flavor that echoes the spirit of the American heartland.
The nose provides warmth with light hints of toasted cereals and honey, followed by a taste of cooked fruit, nutmeg, and caramel. The finish is remarkably smooth and long-lasting. It’s a must-try for any bourbon connoisseur. The August 2023 batch is expected to be one of their best yet.
Old Forester: The Continuation of a Legacy
Next on deck, we have Old Forester, the first bourbon brand to be available by the bottle. Continuously available before, during, and after Prohibition, Old Forester have continued the tradition of crafting fine American bourbon.
New Release: Old Forester 1910 Old Fine Whisky
Introducing their latest expression, the Old Forester 1910 Old Fine Whisky. This bourbon is a historical nod to the October day when a fire caused the distillery to evacuate, leaving behind vats of bourbon that were later double-barreled, resulting in a different flavor profile.
This bourbon provides rich, chocolate notes, perfectly paired with a light smokiness. It’s the perfect dram to toast with on a cool fall evening.
Maker’s Mark: An Artisanal Approach
Moving on, we have Maker’s Mark. Known for handcrafting their bourbon, their process might be a bit slower, but it offers a unique and exceptional flavor profile that fans of the distillery have come to love and expect.
New Release: Maker’s Mark Seared Bu 1-3
Their brand-new release this month is the Maker’s Mark Seared Bu 1-3. This special offering is a part of their limited-edition Wood Finishing Series.
The signature Maker’s Mark bourbon is finished in secondary barrels, containing proprietary seared French oak staves. Notes of vanilla and caramel meet the nose first, followed by flavors of dried fruit, almond, and baking spices. The finish is rich and full-bodied, leaving a warm and splendidly complex flavor in the mouth.
Heaven’s Door, Old Forester, Maker’s Mark — each distillery is releasing a unique, worth-tasting bourbon that represents their respective house styles, inviting us deeper into the ever-enriching world of bourbon. So pull up barstools, pour some bourbon, and let the revelry begin this August with these superb expressions that are sure to make this Bourbon Heritage Month one to remember.
