Chuck Cowdery Explores the Perseverance of The New Michter’s Whiskey

The Story of Michter’s Distillery

Michter’s Distillery has a long and fascinating history in the world of whiskey. The brand was first established in the 1750s in Pennsylvania, but production came to a halt during Prohibition. After the repeal of Prohibition, the brand was resurrected but changed hands several times over the following decades.

Despite changes in ownership and multiple periods of dormancy, Michter’s managed to maintain its reputation for producing high-quality whiskey. But it wasn’t until the early 2000s that Michter’s really began to hit its stride.

The Rebuilding of Michter’s

When Joseph Magliocco and his team acquired the Michter’s name in 1997, the brand had been defunct for several years. Magliocco and his partner eventually rebranded their company as Michter’s Distillery LLC and focused on rebuilding the brand from the ground up.

Their first hurdle was finding a location for the distillery itself. After considering various spots around the country, they settled on a site in Shively, Kentucky, just outside of Louisville. The location had been a distillery in the past, so it seemed like a fitting place to revive the Michter’s name.

Next, they had to acquire the equipment needed to produce high-quality whiskey. Magliocco and his team traveled around the country, buying vintage stills and other equipment from distilleries that had gone out of business.

The Introduction of The New Michter’s

After years of preparation and hard work, Michter’s Distillery was finally ready to reintroduce the Michter’s brand to the world. They began by releasing a limited-edition bourbon in 2004, which was met with critical acclaim.

Since then, Michter’s has continued to release a variety of whiskeys, including bourbons, ryes, and American whiskeys. They’ve won numerous awards and have gained a loyal following of whiskey enthusiasts.

One of the keys to Michter’s success has been their devotion to quality. They use high-quality grains, carefully select barrels for aging, and maintain strict quality control throughout the production process.

The Legacy of Michter’s

Today, Michter’s Distillery is considered one of the premier producers of American whiskey. Their commitment to quality and their willingness to persevere through difficult times has earned them a well-deserved reputation as a study in persistence.

As long as Michter’s upholds its values and continues to produce high-quality whiskey, it seems likely that they’ll continue to be a force in the whiskey world for many years to come.
