Elizabeth McCall Becomes Master Distiller at Woodford Reserve

Woodford Reserve Names Elizabeth McCall as Master Distiller

Elizabeth McCall has been chosen as the next master distiller at Woodford Reserve, marking the first time in the bourbon’s 44 years that a woman has held the esteemed position.

The news was announced today by Kaveh Zamanian, President and Chief Executive Officer of Woodford Reserve owner Brown-Forman.

“Elizabeth brings an extraordinary combination of creativity, respect for tradition, and drive for excellence to her new role,” he said.

Leadership in the Bourbon Industry

McCall, who has been with Woodford Reserve since 2003, has worked in many roles at the distillery over the years. In recent years she has served as its associate master distiller, alongside Chris Morris, the master distiller of Woodford Reserve, who now plans to retire at the end of this year.

McCall will be the first woman master distiller in a major bourbon brand. She joins other female leaders in the industry such as Kathy: inne Mascara of the Buffalo Trace Distillery, Marianne Barnes of Castle & Key Distillery, and Brittany Roth of Old Forester.

A Commitment to Crafting Quality

McCall has been involved in the creation of some of the bourbon’s most acclaimed expressions. She helped develop the Woodford Reserve Master’s Collection, a series of experimental whiskeys, including the ultra-rare Woodford Reserve Baccarat Edition.

In her new role, McCall will oversee all aspects of the distillery’s production, from the fermentation and distillation of the whiskey to its aging and bottling. She will also be integral in developing the distillery’s future projects and creative initiatives.

Continuity in Woodford Reserve’s History

McCall has been part of the Woodford Reserve family for almost two decades. She says the opportunity to serve as master distiller is the dream of a lifetime.

“I am beyond honoured to have the opportunity to lead the iconic Woodford Reserve Distillery,” said McCall. “I feel it is a privilege and responsibility to continue to craft bourbon of the highest quality and push the boundaries of innovation while respecting our rich heritage.”

A New Chapter for Woodford Reserve

With McCall as master distiller, Woodford Reserve is ready to embark on a new chapter as it continues to carry on the heritage and traditions of its legacy.

“Elizabeth has been an important part of the Woodford Reserve team for many years and is more than ready to lead the outstanding team of Woodford Reserve Distillery,” Zamanian said. “Her passion and commitment to make Woodford Reserve memorable through exceptional and unique quality product is evident.”
