FEW Spirits Announces FEW Rye Whiskey Bottled-in-Bond

FEW Spirits of Evanston, IL, is proud to announce the newest whiskey joining their lineup: FEW Rye Whiskey Bottled-in-Bond. Distilled from a mash bill of 60% rye, 36% corn, and 4% malted barley, this whiskey is a distinct representation of their Evanson location.

What is Bottled-in-Bond?

For whiskey lovers looking for an assurance of the highest quality, many seek out the distinction of ‘Bottled-in-Bond’ or ‘BiB’. This label is more than just a catchy term; it’s a federal promise that the whiskey meets strict requirements laid out in the United States Department of the Treasury standards.

In order for a whiskey to be labeled Bottled-in-Bond, it must be the product of one distillation season, one distiller, and one distillery. In addition, it must be aged in a federally bonded warehouse for at least four years and bottled at 100 proof or 50% ABV. As a legal distinction, it allows the buyer to know that the whiskey they’re purchasing has held to the highest quality standards.

The idea of biB whiskey dates back to 1897, when U.S. Senate sought to create a standard for whiskey quality. As such, any whiskey bearing the BiB label is a nod to not only the high quality and tradition it represents, but also to the history of whiskey standards in America.

FEW Rye Whiskey Bottled-in-Bond

Having known for their award-winning whiskeys, FEW Spirits has released its first ever bottled-in-bond whiskey. Their Rye Whiskey BiB utilizes a mash bill of 60% rye, 36% corn, and 4% malted barley.

The whiskey is copper distilled and aged to a minimum of four years in new, charred American white oak casks. Thanks to the bottled-in-bond law, the whiskey is not put through chill-filtering, preserving its unique flavor and mouthfeel.

The whiskey is bottled at 113 proof (56.5% ABV). The higher proof preserving the whiskey’s flavor and making only a small portion of water needed for dilution to bring it to a comfortable drinking temperature.

The Taste of FEW Rye Whiskey Bottled-in-Bond

Described as “intensely floral, with notes of pepper, toasty oak and a hint of almond,” FEW Rye Whiskey Bottled-in-Bond pairs well with a light-bodied ale or a well-rounded wheat beer.

On the nose, it offers notes of oak, caramel, and spice. The flavor profile showcases bright, spicy rye balanced with sweet caramel and toasted oak. The finish is lingering and velvety, leaving the palate with a warm, enveloping spiciness.
