Heaven Hill Distillery, located in Kentucky’s fabled Bourbon country, recently celebrated the filling of their 10 millionth barrel of Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. Established in 1935, Heaven Hill is one of the oldest operating distilleries in the world, and is the largest independent, family-owned distillery in North America.
History of Heaven Hill Distillery
The history of Heaven Hill Distillery begins in 1934, when the five Shapira brothers acquired a small cooperage and set up shop in Louisville, Kentucky. Originally, their focus was to produce barrels from used whiskey for the rest of the whiskey industry. In 1935, they decided to expand their business and began to produce their own whiskey. Over the years the company has expanded to become the largest independent, family-owned distillery in North America.
Celebration of 10 Millionth Barrel of Bourbon
The 10 millionth barrel of Heaven Hill’s Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey was filled on Tuesday, October 20th. The special occasion was celebrated with a small gathering of friends and family, along with the current master distiller, Jay Christopher, and past master distiller, Craig Beam. The ceremony concluded with a standing ovation and the presentation of a crystal decanter filled with the first draw from the 10 millionth barrel.

The significance of the 10 millionth barrel of Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey was not lost on Jay Christopher. “It’s an honour to be part of this milestone,” he said. “We’re especially proud of the fact that our 10 millionth barrel was filled with Heaven Hill’s legendary Straight Kentucky Bourbon.”
The event was also a time to reflect on the past and look forward to the future. Craig Beam, who was master distiller from 2004 to 2015, remarked that filling the 10 millionth barrel was an amazing accomplishment. “In just over 80 years, Heaven Hill has come a long way from being a small barrel maker to now,” he said. “I’m excited to see what the future holds for Heaven Hill Distillery.”
