Old Forester Announces 12-year-old Birthday Bourbon for 2023

Old Forester, the longest continuously-produced bourbon whiskey in the US, recently announced the launch of a special 12-year-old bourbon just in time for its birthday. Celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2023, Old Forester will be releasing a limited edition bourbon, which will be the brand’s oldest expression to date.

A Long History

Old Forester has over simultaneously-produced, history-making 160 years in the American whiskey industry. This iconic whiskey brand was introduced in 1870 by George Garvin Brown, who was the first to call whiskey a “bourbon” and the first to develop a sealed bottle.

The whiskey’s distinct flavor and taste comes from a consistent mash bill, distinctive grain recipe, and a continuous yeast strain.

An Exceptional Expression

The 12-year-old Birthday Bourbon expression will be released in limited quantities in 2023, the same year Old Forester celebrates its 150th year.

Old Forester Master Taster Jackie Zykan said, “This is an exceptionally-aged Old Forester Bourbon whiskey that celebrates the brand’s history since 1870. Old Forester 12-year-old Birthday Bourbon is unique and unlike any other expression we have released. We’ve really chosen the best barrels for this whiskey, and are confident it will appeal to whiskey enthusiasts.”

The limited edition 12-year-old expression will have a caramel-colored nose with sweet honey and caramel aromas and a robust profile of cherry, tobacco, and toffee. The whiskey will also have a smooth and silky texture, with peppery notes on the palate and a long and lingering finish.

A Collectible to Rebel Against Ordinary Whiskey

Old Forester 12-year-old Birthday Bourbon will be released in collectible bottles inspired by Old Forester’s iconic round bottle shape. The design will be modern and colorful, featuring a detailed map of the distillery grounds.

The bottle cap will also feature an embossed 150th celebration logo and a poem about rebelling against ordinary whiskey.

Zykan said, “This is an opportunity to honor Old Forester’s history and celebrate the brand’s unique place in whiskey. We’re proud to release this collectible whiskey that will honor our heritage and give whiskey lovers another reason to rebel against ordinary whiskey.”

Availability and Pricing

Old Forester 12-year-old Birthday Bourbon will be available beginning in the Spring of 2023. The whiskey will be sold in 750ml bottles for an introductory price of around $50-$60.

The limited edition bottling is expected to be available in select markets for a limited time only. Stay tuned for more information on availability
