Blue Run Trifecta – An Intriguing Blend

NOSE

Blue Run Trifecta offers an olfactory experience that is equal parts woody and sweet. On my nose I could detect cedar, brown butter, apple crisps, white pepper and whipped cream.

PALATE

Tasting the bourbon, a caramel apple flavour was prominent, along with hints of cinnamon, pie crust, rye spice and a slight floral element.

FINISH

The finish of this bourbon was long and fiery, with notes of fig, cigar box, barrel char and white pepper ramping up the heat. There was also a subtle Concord grape aftertaste.

OVERALL

As a whole, Blue Run Trifecta delivered a well-blended bourbon that may get overshadowed by its competitive price tag. It sticks with the apple pie profile quite closely, but offers enough unique features to make it notable for its uniqueness alone. From its “lost whiskey” component to its intense finish, this Limited Edition release certainly makes an impression, however it unfortunately may be a price too far for many curious drinkers.
