Jack Daniel’s Bonded Rye Review
Jack Daniel’s Bonded Rye is a new permanent addition to the brand’s Bonded Series. It was released in 2022, and is the first rye whiskey from the Jack Daniels Distillery to carry the Bottled-in-Bond designation. The whiskey is made with the same mashbill and yeast strain used for other Jack Daniels ryes, and is aged for at least 4 years in new charred American white oak barrels.
Nose
The aroma of Jack Daniel’s Bonded Rye is light, but pleasant. Peppery spice mixes with crisp fruit scents of pear, apple, and green grapes. There’s also a candy-like sweet note that’s reminiscent of maple sugar candy.
Palate
The whiskey is surprisingly unique. Bold rye spice mixes with fresh mint leaves right off the bat. Waves of barrel char, black pepper, and cinnamon follow, and are accompanied by hints of maple sugar candy and molasses. There is also an unusually rich earthy base that adds depth and complexity.
Finish
The earthy undertone continues into the finish, along with residual rye spice. Sweet notes of vanilla custard and burnt brown sugar also become present as the whiskey breaks down on your palate. It’s a delicious ending to the sip.
Uniqueness
Jack Daniel’s Bonded Rye is unlike other ryes out there. While it still offers the classical flavors of rye, the unique maple charcoal finishing and earthy undertone bring something special to the table. There is also a unique balance between the whiskey’s bold spice notes and sweet, earthy side.

At $32 per bottle, Jack Daniel’s Bonded Rye offers a great value. It’s a 7 year old rye that has the potential for delicious cocktails, can handle a few ice cubes, and is complex and full of flavor for sipping neat.
