New Holland Origin Toasted Barrel – Barrel 2023D “Cherry Turnover”

When it comes to unique tasting bourbons, New Holland Spirits is onto something with their toasted barrel finish. The flavors in this particular whiskey were instantly engaging and deep. On the nose, dark cherries, cinnamon, burnt caramel, orange zest, and allspice come through. On the palate, you get stewed cherries, caramel, vanilla, dried apricot, and a full-bodied flavor. In the finish, you get an upfront spice with summer fruits, cocoa, and a nutty undertone.

The mashbill in this bourbon is unique too – 25% malted barley and 5% rye which often results in a lively flavor profile with unique summer fruit and citrus notes. And the toasted barrel finish just takes this whiskey to the next level.

The aroma and taste are quite unique – I didn’t pick up the coffee notes in the finish, but I did find hints of vanilla and chocolate. Orange zest, dried apricot, caramel, and all spices were also present. The fact that it’s still somewhat undiscovered and shines in the greater bourbon landscape is why I love it.

New Holland’s Origin Toasted Barrel – Barrel 2023D “Cherry Turnover” is truly a hidden gem. It’s well worth giving it a try!
