Mile High Spirits – Fireside Single Barrel Bourbon Port Barrel Finish

Mile High Spirits is based out of Denver, Colorado, and is known for taking their spirits seriously without taking themselves too seriously. This Fireside Single Barrel Bourbon has been aged in a new American white oak barrel and then given a full year of extended aging time in a used Australian tawny port barrel. Proofed down to 105.6 and bottled from barrel 21L09.sr.46, the aroma of this whiskey is a mix of sweet berries, dry oak, and a light dose of vanilla.

Nose

Fresh mixed berries | Dry oak | Brown butter | Light vanilla | Touch of burnt caramel | Slight grain | Dab of malted barley

Palate

Light charred oak | Burst of juicy dark berries | Slight creaminess | Leather | White pepper | Rye spice | Spice nicely tones down the sweeter notes

Finish

Rye spice | Peppery oak | Essence of berries | Lingering peppery heat | Dab of dry baking chocolate | Overtly dry

Overall

Extended aging time in a used Australian tawny port barrel allows Mile High Spirits to add a touch of juiciness to their Fireside lineup. This is an easy-sipping bourbon with a bold spice flavour and a dry finish. It’s definitely worth a try if you’re a fan of port-finished whiskeys and looking for something unique.
