It is described by Barton as a high rye bourbon, and has been bottled at the original 125 barrel entry proof. This makes it the highest proof 1792 offering to date, and it has been bottled without the traditional chill filtering, passing only through a plate and frame filter.
Nose
The nose is strong and potent, with seasoned oak, caramel and barrel char arriving upfront. The high proof brings an ethanol edge that is countered by more gentle scents of vanilla, cranberry and raspberry. The aromas work well together to make a lasting impression.
Palate
The palate echoes the nose with seasoned oak, caramel and barrel char making for a thick and syrupy medley. Pecan, dried dates and stone fruit are too faint to make a real impact but are still detectable. Despite its simplicity, the palate is very satisfying.
