Kentucky Peerless Launches High Rye Bourbon
Kentucky Peerless Distilling Co. has announced the launch of their high rye bourbon, Peerless® Small Batch Rye. This is the first time in over a century that the Kentucky-based distillery has created a high rye bourbon.
Background
The distillery is located in Henderson, Kentucky, and is home to the fourth and fifth-generation of the one of the first family-owned distilleries in the Bluegrass State. Peerless is best known for its flagship brand, the small batch bourbon which is made from a custom mash bill with a special Minnesota corn.
The New High Rye Bourbon
The new Peerless® Small Batch Rye features a mash bill of 78 percent rye, 21 percent malted barley, and 1 percent malted wheat, achieving a high rye content for the brand. The whiskey is bottled at 106 proof, and will have a slightly higher price point of $125 per 750ml bottle.
What to Expect
The high rye content gives the whiskey hints of pepper, spice, and earthy undertones, which play nicely against the traditional sweetness of Peerless’ signature mash bill of Minnesota corn. Fans of the original bourbon are sure to find something to love in this new rye recipe.
