This is one of six brand extensions in the 1792 portfolio so I was excited to taste the 1792 Single Barrel Bourbon (2023 Release) and see how it held up.
Nose
The nose kicks this bourbon off right. Bold rich caramel smells like it was just poured straight from the pan and cannot be understated. There are butter, nougat, cookie dough and spicy cinnamon notes that work together to create something really special.
Palate
The palate is a perfectly tempered blend of caramel and oak with milk chocolate, plum, sweet pastry and golden raisins. A delicate thread of apricot runs through it all giving that extra spark.
Finish
The finish introduces fudge, nutmeg, dates and hazelnut that work well together. The traditional 1792 spice note comes in late adding burnt sugar and toasted marshmallow tastes. It has a solid body and a medium-long finish.
Uniqueness
This 1792 Single Barrel stands out the most compared to other releases. It not only has traditional Bourbon flavors like vanilla, caramel and oak, but offers a really unique pairing of flavors. Milk chocolate, plum, sweet pastry, golden raisins, and apricot on the palate and a finish focused on fudge, nutmeg, and hazelnut are incredible together.
Value
The value of this bourbon is typically dictated by how good a particular single barrel is. It’s worth the gamble at $50 because you have potential upside with this one. It might not be this good with every single barrel release but it is good when you find one.
Overall
Single barrel releases are always a risk/reward endeavor, but this 1792 Single Barrel 2023 Release is a way above average value. After tasting through 1792’s summer 2023 releases, this 1792 Single Barrel is by far the most impressive of the bunch. You never know what you’re going to get but it pays off here
