Watershed Distillery to Produce Limited Release Bourbon Finished in Maple Syrup Barrels
Watershed Distillery, an Ohio-based craft spirits producer, is set to release an ultra-limited edition bourbon, finished in maple syrup barrels. The bourbon is the first release of its kind, combining the sweetness of maple syrup with the depth and complexity of bourbon.
What the Whiskey is All About
This whiskey begins with a mash bill of 70% corn, 25% rye, and 5% malted barley. It spends two years aging in charred, American oak barrels, imbuing it with deep oak, toasted caramel, and baking spice characteristics. Then, it’s finished for six months in barrels that had formerly held pure, Grade A maple syrup, sourced from Prickel Family Farms in Hillsdale, Michigan.
The unique finishing process imparts a sweet, sugary aroma to the bourbon, along with notes of maple, brown sugar, and pie spices. The mouthfeel is rich and full-bodied, with a complexity of sweet and savory flavors, ending with a smooth, warm finish.
Release Details
The bourbon will be sold exclusively at Watershed’s Ohio distilleries and online shop, in 440 ml bottles and miniatures. The batch size is limited to 210 cases, retailing for $39 (440 ml) and $7 (50 ml).
