Westward Whisky Blazes New Trail with Sourdough Whisky
Westward Whisky has partnered with James Beard Award-winning baker and restaurateur Ken Forkish to create the world’s first Sourdough Whisky. This delicious new spirit brings Westward’s expert distilling together with Forkish’s passion for sourdough bread, providing a taste experience like no other.
New Whisky Brings Forkish’s Sourdough Expertise to Spirits
Forkish, a Portland-based baker and restaurateur, is the James Beard Award-winning founder and executive chef of Ken’s Artisan Bakery and Trifecta Tavern & Bakery. He is also the author of the acclaimed book Flour Water Salt Yeast: The Fundamentals of Artisan Bread and Pizza.
When Westward Whisky set out to create a truly unique whisky, they turned to Forkish for his knowledge and understanding of sourdough baking. After months of experimentations, the pair created Westward Sourdough Whisky, which is made from wheat, rye, oats and malted barley, and is aged in air-dried Oregon White Oak.
Sourdough Whisky Brings Innovation and Tradition Together
Westward’s Sourdough Whisky brings innovation and tradition together. It is a complex whisky, boasting notes of toasted malt, vanilla, vibrant rye, baked bread, honey, warm cinnamon and clove. The whisky’s subtle acidity pairs with its sweet malty notes and hints of oak, creating a well-balanced and unique flavor.
The innovation and skill that goes into creating Westward’s Sourdough Whisky is a testament to the passion Forkish and Westward Whisky have for their craft, and offers a unique drinking experience.
